Apple Inc. (AAPL) director and veteran auto-industry executive
Jerome B. York has died, the consumer electronics giant disclosed
Thursday.
York, a former chief financial officer of International Business
Machines Inc. (IBM) and Chrysler Group LLC, was hospitalized in
Pontiac, Mich., after suffering a brain aneurysm, a person familiar
with the matter told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
York spent most of his career in the auto industry and is
perhaps best known as a key aide to billionaire investor Kirk
Kerkorian. Chief Executive Steve Jobs said York had been "a pillar
of financial and business expertise and insight" on the company's
board since 1997.
"It's been a privilege to know and work with Jerry, and I'm
going to miss him a lot," Jobs said in a statement.
A spokesman wasn't immediately available for further comment.
There was no immediate comment from Tracinda or Kerkorian.
