Business Wire
United Defense Industries, Inc. (NYSE:UDI) has received two
delivery orders worth up to $15.2 million from the Program
Executive Office, U.S. Army Simulation, Training and
Instrumentation. The orders cover Conduct of Fire Trainers (COFT)
and Bradley Advanced Training Systems (BATS). United Defense will
upgrade the Army's Bradley A2 and A2 ODS COFT in its Orlando, Fla.
facility. The COFT contract, worth $4.8 million, calls for
upgrading 66 of the trainers to add Force XXI Battle Command
Brigade and Below (FBCB2) digital communications, providing the
auxiliary sighting system with an active virtual imagery displays,
as well as new image generation capability that will allow the
Army's Close Combat Tactical Trainer terrain databases to be used.
The upgraded COFT configuration is designed to train or sustain
gunnery proficiency so crews are accurate and effective in combat.
In a separate delivery order worth $10.4 million, United Defense
contracted to design, develop and retrofit 24 BATS with
enhancements and provide 10 new BATS to the Army. The contract
provides a new image generation capability that will allow the
Army's Close Combat Tactical Trainer terrain databases to be used
in the BATS trainer. The new image generation capabilities in both
trainers better align the gunnery trainers with the Army's strategy
to use common components to reduce life-cycle costs. This work
follows a $6.5 million contract awarded to United Defense in
January 2004 by the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command
to provide COFT recapitalization kits to upgrade the training
system. In February 2004, United Defense began delivering and
installing the kits at Fort Benning, Ga., Ft. Hood, Tx, and Ft.
Carson, Co. About United Defense United Defense designs, develops
and produces combat vehicles, artillery, naval guns, missile
launchers and precision munitions used by the U.S. Department of
Defense and allies worldwide, and provides non-nuclear ship repair,
modernization and conversion to the U.S. Navy and other U.S.
Government agencies. To learn more about United Defense, visit
