Detroit area academy is the 18th location Bank One has opened since
1998 in 12 cities around the country. Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Metropolitan Detroit screens and trains mentors from Bank One and
helps them effectively guide students through continuing
supervision. The mentors develop management skills while they give
back to the community. "We hope the students who successfully
complete the Bank One Academy learn a very important life lesson --
the only limits to success are the ones we place on ourselves,"
said Dick Wade, president of Bank One's Michigan market. "I
congratulate the students and their mentors on a successful
academic year. We hope this experience will open the door to more
opportunities for all as our first Michigan students graduate from
the Bank One Academy." As they progressed through the program,
students could earn up to 1,000 points. Mentors evaluated the
students after the academy's last session May 12, and 10 students
who earned 80 percent of the available points will receive $250
scholarships. For students who earned more points, Bank One will
present 16 scholarships worth $500. The top-achieving student will
receive an additional $1,000 scholarship. Bank One will announce
the scholarship awards at the June 2 graduation ceremony. Students
qualified for the academy by having at least a "C" average and good
high school attendance and conduct records. Bank One will recognize
the River Rouge students at a 3 p.m. graduation ceremony June 2 at
the technology center, 9000 Haggerty Road (between Tyler and Ecorse
roads), Belleville. In Michigan, Bank One operates a network of 240
branches and 370 ATMs. Bank One Corporation (
