NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. (TSX VENTURE: NKW) announced today that Paul Taylor, the company's President and CEO, has signed the Copenhagen Communique on Climate Change.

"The NaiKun Wind project represents a significant opportunity for British Columbia and Canada to contribute to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions," said Paul Taylor. "I have signed the Communique on behalf of NaiKun Wind to demonstrate our company's alignment with the important decisions that are being considered at the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit."

"The science is clear; we must take immediate and significant steps to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels," added Taylor.

NaiKun Wind is developing Canada's first offshore wind energy project, to be built in Hecate Strait, off British Columbia's northwest coast. The 396MW project will harness the power of the strong winds in the Strait using up to 110 turbines installed several kilometres off the eastern shore of Haida Gwaii (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands). Wind energy is one of the cleanest, most abundant and cost-effective resources that can be used to generate electricity.

"The NaiKun Wind project will produce enough clean, renewable power to meet the electricity needs of 130,000 B.C. homes," said Taylor. "The project will also help the province meet its targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as well as the goal of electricity self-sufficiency."

In addition to creating a wide variety of local jobs, the project will support economic development on Haida Gwaii and eliminate the islands' reliance on diesel generators for electricity, thus displacing 26,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions on the islands each year.

The Copenhagen Communique on Climate Change is a statement with support from over 900 companies in the international business community for the United Nations climate change conference currently underway in Copenhagen. The Communique is an initiative of The Prince of Wales' Corporate Leaders' Group on Climate Change which is run by The University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership.
