MONTREAL, Feb. 11, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - (TSXV: SDW) When planners for Montreal's new $2 billion CHUM super hospital met with HH Angus consulting engineers, one of the top priorities was how best to maximize heating efficiency while ensuring the lowest possible energy costs.  CHUM will have the largest power plant among Montreal's finest hospitals.  Sofame's Montreal-based distributors, Enviroair, provided the answer to energy performance and operating cost savings.  Enviroair recommended the same direct-contact stack economizer used by numerous other hospitals in North America to achieve 98% heating efficiency.

The Percotherm® direct-contact stack economizer, designed and manufactured by Montreal-based Sofame Technologies Inc., recuperates the residual heat contained in boiler and turbine flue gases, and transfers it to cool water streams.  Hot water is produced at temperatures as high as 140 degrees F (60 degrees C).  The Sofame system fully conforms to new boiler efficiency guidelines established by the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineers in the ASHRAE report titled "Advanced Energy Design Guide for Large Hospitals" published in 2012.  HH Angus is targeting LEED Silver certification for CHUM's new hospital complex.

According to John Gocek, President of Sofame, "CHUM Phase 2 is the sixth major hospital to choose Sofame since 2012, because the fuel cost savings and operating efficiency results are undeniable.  The order is valued among the four most important Sofame has received, including Montoir de Bretagne, University of Toronto and Princeton University."
