HILLS, Mich., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Graduate students at
the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. competed for first prize
and won $15,000 in scholarships at the DaimlerChrysler Corporation
Fund sponsored National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) National
Student Case Competition held at the 27th annual conference in San
Diego, Calif. Michigan State University and Pennsylvania State
University received second and third place awards, respectively.
Since 1995, DaimlerChrysler Corp. Fund has been the sole sponsor of
the competition. This year, DaimlerChrysler Services, the captive
finance arm of DaimlerChrysler, partnered with DaimlerChrysler
Corp. Fund to sponsor the National Student Case Competition. The
competition included students from nearly 30 top business schools
from around the country. The student teams developed business
solutions to meet real world challenges while competing for
scholarship awards totaling $35,000. In addition to participation
in the academic competition, graduate students representing the top
business schools in the United States gained valuable access and
exposure to companies that could recruit and eventually hire them.
"DaimlerChrysler is committed to sponsoring the National Student
Case Competition at the National Black MBA Association Annual
Conference to provide challenging business scenarios to better
prepare MBA students for global business opportunities," said W.
Frank Fountain, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - External
Affairs and Public Policy (Auburn Hills) and President of the
DaimlerChrysler Corp. Fund. "Our sponsorship of the team from South
Africa truly makes the DaimlerChrysler/NBMBAA National Student Case
Competition a global event." The case study focused on the Chinese
automobile industry. Students were asked to address the Chinese
automotive market potential and to perform a product assessment for
the Chrysler Group. Elements of the proposals included consumer
marketing, creating a distribution network and expanding Chrysler
Group's presence in China. The teams were judged on the feasibility
of their recommendation, quality of their content analysis, the
custom solution they provided and their presentation styles. "As an
international enterprise, DaimlerChrysler relies on the brightest,
most talented and diverse business leaders of tomorrow for its
success," said Janet Marzett, Vice President of Human Resources and
Administrative Services for DaimlerChrysler Services Americas.
"This year's challenge to explore the Chinese market represents the
true global reach and outlook of the company." Student teams
participated from institutions across the United States and
included the University of Michigan, Cornell University, Brigham
Young University, Emory University, Texas A&M University,
Howard University and the University of Tennessee. For the sixth
consecutive year, DaimlerChrysler Corp. Fund has sponsored a team
from the University of Stellenbosch of South Africa in the
competition. DATASOURCE: DaimlerChrysler Corporation CONTACT: Kevin
