One-Day Forum Returns to ESC, April 3 at San Jose's Fairmont Hotel;
Executives and Editors Pit Newest Processors Head-to-Head SAN
FRANCISCO, March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CMP Media today
announced the program details for the second annual Microprocessor
Summit, back by popular demand as part of the upcoming Embedded
Systems Conference Silicon Valley (http://www.embedded.com/esc/sv),
on Monday, April 3. The one-day Summit provides a forum for major
semiconductor companies to introduce new embedded processors,
microcontrollers, and digital signal processors, and to debate the
pros and cons of today's products. The Summit, sponsored this year
by Xilinx, BDTI, and The Linley Group, will bring together the
nation's leading embedded designers, chip architects, chip industry
executives, analysts, press, and venture capitalists for juried
announcements of new processors. The day's presentations will be
coupled with a discussion led by editorial moderators, highlighting
each vendor's latest products, and key distinctions among the
competition. Program Chair Jim Turley, editor-in-chief of Embedded
Systems Design, will moderate a New Products Announcements
presentation (10:30am-12:30pm), where companies like Altera, AMCC
and Intelasys will world-premiere their latest innovations.
Attendees will hear real-time analysis by an independent staff of
editors and analysts, and learn what each of these chips means to
customers and to the industry. Audience members can ask piercing
questions of each presenter, while company speakers will be
challenged to defend their products and strategies. "The
Microprocessor Summit is the must-attend forum for Silicon Valley's
most innovative chip creators, and is back due to overwhelming
demand from the community," said Jim Turley. "This is the premiere
forum for designers, architects, business leaders, and press to see
top vendors compete and prove which processors are the very best on
the market." Throughout the day, breakout sessions will include
head-to-head competition among leading vendors: Media Processors
Breakout Session (2:00pm - 3:30pm) Digital video is hot.
Applications ranging from home entertainment to surveillance are
going digital, and new applications like portable media players are
quickly emerging. This session will present some of the latest
processors for digital video, including a RISC CPU, a VLIW-based
processor, and a multi-core processor. Presentations include:
Blackfin in Convergent Processing (Analog Devices); New 32-bit Core
Outruns DSP-oriented MCUs in EEMBC-Certified Benchmarks (Atmel
Norway); and DaVinci Technology: Simplifying Digital Video Systems
Design (Texas Instruments). Low End Processors Breakout Session
(2:00pm - 3:30pm) 8- and 16-bit processors make up most of the
world's processor industry, and the forecast looks rosy. Find out
what the major vendors are doing to protect their positions, and
what the challengers are doing to knock them off. Presentations
include: The MAXQ3120 Electricity Metering Microcontroller (Dallas
Semiconductor/Maxim); The Rabbit Family of Processors (Rabbit
Semiconductors); MSP430F20xx MCUs: Tiny, Fast, Flexible Low-pin
Count Devices (Texas Instruments). Digital Signal Controllers
Breakout Session (4:00pm - 5:30pm) Digital signal controllers (DSC)
combine the attributes of digital signal processors (DSPs) with
those of microcontrollers (MCUs), targeting motor control and other
computationally demanding control-loop applications. Presentations
include: Benefits and Applications of Freescale's 56F8000 Digital
Signal Controller Products (Freescale Semiconductor); Expanding the
DSC Horizons: dsPIC33F and PIC24 (Microchip Technology Inc.); and
TMS320F28x Controllers: Delivering Innovative, Cost-effective
Embedded Control (Texas Instruments). High End Processors Breakout
Session (4:00pm - 5:30pm) Examining processors that deliver enough
performance for the most demanding embedded applications -- such as
security, networking, and communications infrastructure.
Presentations include: OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 Processors for
Intelligent Next Generation Networks (Cavium Networks); MPC8360E
PowerQUICC II Pro Processor in Wireless Infrastructure Access
(Freescale Semiconductor); and The First PWRficient Processor (P.A.
Semi). Attendees to the Microprocessor Summit will also have the
opportunity to hear the first release of results of the 2006 ESD
Embedded Survey -- a sneak peek into operating systems, languages,
chips, and vendors working engineers prefer, and which ones they
dislike. CMP Media's extensive research covers topics and
developers spanning international trends, and this will be the
first opportunity for attendees to see how the numbers add up
before the results are officially released. The Embedded Systems
Conference (ESC) is North America's largest electronic systems
design event, and will welcome thousands of the world's electronics
engineering elite, gathered in one place to showcase their latest
innovations and technological achievements. Conference highlights
include a comprehensive technical program and design seminars, an
exhibit show floor featuring the industry's top players, a keynote
address by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, and the
co-location of the D2M conference. For the complete Embedded
Systems Conference program, visit: http://www.embedded.com/esc/sv.
