Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT) Appointment of Chief Executive Officer

24 May 2017

Geeta Nanda OBE has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Housing Trust. Geeta is currently Chief Executive Officer of Thames Valley Housing, and will join Metropolitan in October 2017, succeeding Brian Johnson.

Paula Kahn, Chair of Metropolitan, said:

"We are delighted to announce today the appointment of Geeta Nanda OBE, Chief Executive Officer of Thames Valley Housing, as Metropolitan's new Chief Executive Officer.

"Geeta is an exceptional CEO with proven experience and understanding of the sector. The Board believes that, with Geeta's leadership, Metropolitan will continue to strengthen its position as a leading social housing provider.

"Brian Johnson has done an excellent job over the past four years in leading Metropolitan, and he is leaving the organisation in a strong position. We thank him for all his efforts and hard work."

David Clayton-Smith, Chair of Thames Valley Housing, said:

"Geeta's exceptional leadership has greatly contributed to the growth and stature of Thames Valley Housing. She leaves with our very best wishes for this fresh and exciting challenge."

Brian Johnson announced his resignation from Metropolitan in February 2017. He will continue as Chief Executive Officer until July, at which point interim arrangements will be put in place until Geeta joins the organisation in October.

Notes to Editors:

Geeta Nanda OBE joined Thames Valley Housing as Chief Executive Officer in 2008, after completing four years as Group Operations Director of Notting Hill Housing Trust. Over nearly 30 years, Geeta has worked in a variety of leadership roles in housing associations, which have provided her with significant experience and a thorough understanding of the sector.

During her career, Geeta has maintained a track record of improving profitability, implementing strategy, establishing innovative joint ventures and partnerships, and raising organisations' levels of internal engagement and external reputation. In her most recent role at Thames Valley Housing, Geeta has overseen a top quartile performance in customer service, and the establishment of a highly successful market rent subsidiary.

Geeta is a Non-Executive Director of McCarthy & Stone, a FTSE 250 retirement housebuilder, and has served on the Boards of two housing organisations, as well as national and local charities. She is also an Ambassador for charity World Child Cancer. In 2013, she was awarded an OBE for achievements in social housing.
