    Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting


    Following on from the announcement yesterday of the proposed EUR1.5 billion capital investment by the Minister for Finance, Anglo Irish
Bank Corporation plc ('Anglo' or the 'Company') announces that a Circular containing a notice convening an Extraordinary General Meeting
('EGM') of the Company has been published and is being posted to Shareholders. The EGM is to be held on 16 January 2009 at 10.00 am at the
Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2.

    The purpose of the EGM is to propose Resolutions for, inter alia, the issue and allotment of the New Preference Shares to the Minister
and a Resolution pursuant to a waiver, of any potential obligation of the Minister to make a general offer under Rule 9 of the Takeover
Rules. Such waiver was granted by the Takeover Panel on 23 December 2008, and is subject to approval of Shareholders.

    The Circular and Notice of EGM will be made available today on the Company's website http://www.angloirishbank.com

    Copies of the Circular and Notice of EGM are being submitted to the Irish Stock Exchange and the UK Listing Authority and will shortly
be available for inspection at:
