                               Award of contract


Chieftain Group Plc ("Chieftain" or "the Group"), the Tyneside-based industrial
services group, is pleased to announce that its wholly-owned subsidiary, R.
Blackett Charlton Limited ("RBC"), has secured a significant contract with
Huntsman Pigments ("Huntsman").


The contract, which will last for an initial three year period with an option to
extend for a further two years, is for the provision of engineering term
maintenance and project services at Huntsman's world-class Greatham site on
Teesside. The contract will involve the transfer of staff from the incumbent
contractor under a TUPE ("Transfer of Undertakings, Protection of Employment")
arrangement. A total of 67 staff will be transferred under the agreement
initially.


The contract with Huntsman is the fifth significant contract signed by RBC since
it opened for business on Teesside last year. RBC's other clients on Teesside
include BASF, ConocoPhilips, Hydro Polymers and px Limited (operator of the
Teesside Power Station).


Commenting on the Huntsman contract, Bill Taylor, Chieftain Chief Executive,
