HiWave's ultra low power amplifier IC and BMR speaker drivers adopted by AQ Audio for advanced battery powered AirPlay speaker

Cambridge, UK, June 29, 2012: HiWave Technologies(LSE:HIW), which develops and sells electronic components and devices that utilise innovative sound and touch technologies, has announced its patented BMR speaker drivers and ultra-efficient audio amplifier chips have been adopted by AQ Audio to create the AQ SmartSpeaker(TM), one of the world's most advanced battery powered AirPlay speakers([1]) .

The AQ SmartSpeaker is listed among2012's best technologies by T3([2]) and The Independent([3]) and each speaker includes two HiWave HiBM36S12 BMR speaker drivers and a HiWave HiAS2002 twin-channel amplifier IC.

The 24W speaker delivers over 10 hours of playback in AirPlay mode from a single battery charge cycle; and more than 20 hours when connected via a 3.5mm jack.

HiWave's patented low power amplifier IC consumes 1/20(th) the power of comparable Class D amplifiers at typical listening levels and significantly extends battery life in wireless speakers or increases volume levels in low supply designs, such as USB speakers. The company's patented BMR speakers deliver a full audio frequency range to give a warmer sound across a wide audio dispersion angle for room filling audio.

James Lewis, HiWave CEO commented:

"The AQ SmartSpeaker is a fantastically simple concept that's been very well executed. It exploits the benefits that AirPlay brings and combines this with efficient technology and high quality playback to give you a high quality speaker that you can easily control and position anywhere in the home."

James Grant, AQ Audio CEO commented:

"Amplifier power efficiency was key in making this break through and creating a wireless AirPlay speaker. The HiWave amplifier IC's flexibility and the team's support allowed us to work within Airplay's strict signal latency specifications without compromising on sound quality."
