             UNILEVER ACQUIRES US INDUSTRIAL CLEANING BUSINESS

Unilever announced today that it has acquired AmeriClean Systems, Inc., an
institutional and industrial cleaning products company headquartered in
Southfield, Michigan.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

AmeriClean, which had sales in excess of US$100 million (approx #60m) last
year, provides cleaning and hygiene products to the health care, lodging,
food service, and other industries in the US. It will be operated within
Unilever's DiverseyLever Business Group, a global institutional and industrial
cleaning and hygiene business.   DiverseyLever is the principal manufacturer of
AmeriClean's products.

The purchase reunites AmeriClean with Diversey.  Both companies had been
under common ownership prior to Unilever's acquisition of Diversey in April
1996 from The Molson Companies, Ltd.  Coincident with that acquisition,
AmeriClean was purchased by its senior management group.

AmeriClean will provide Unilever with a strong base from which to leverage
DiverseyLever's global strength into the critical US institutional cleaning
and hygiene markets.  With DiverseyLever's leading positions in most other
world markets, particularly in Europe, the acquisition of AmeriClean will
provide international customers with comprehensive global coverage.
