LAS VEGAS, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA WORLD -- CA
Technologies (Nasdaq: CA) today introduced a ground-breaking
role-based workspace, CA Mainframe Chorus, architected to
radically simplify and streamline management tasks, to help
increase staff productivity and to provide a shorter on-ramp for
the next generation mainframe workforce.
Building on the success of CA Technologies' Mainframe 2.0
strategy, CA Mainframe Chorus continues the focus on controlling
costs, sustaining critical mainframe skills and leveraging the
mainframe to increase IT agility. The new workspace provides
an intuitive design and embedded intelligence to appeal to the next
generation mainframe staff while also offering significant
productivity improvements to today's mainframe experts.
The first role for the workspace, CA Mainframe Chorus for DB2
Database Management is now open for beta. Going forward, CA
Technologies will deliver additional products to address other
important mainframe management roles.
"Many mainframe customers today are looking for ways to reduce
the cost and complexity of managing mission critical workloads, and
to reduce the risks associated with the looming skills shortage,"
said Dayton Semerjian, corporate
senior vice president and general manager for CA Technologies'
Mainframe business unit. "With CA Mainframe Chorus, we are
offering our customers a way to increase the leverage of their
existing IT staffs, so their entire team can effectively assume
mainframe responsibilities."
CA Mainframe Chorus is based on immersive research with
customers to understand how they get their work done. It is
designed to go far beyond the benefits of graphical user
interfaces, by integrating back-end products and introducing a set
of features and capabilities to radically simplify management,
increase staff productivity and facilitate collaboration and
knowledge sharing.
These breakthrough innovations help harmonize the different
tools and processes required for the mainframe team to accomplish
their daily tasks, creating an efficient and finely tuned
environment that offers significant productivity gains.
"The effectiveness of Mainframe IT specialists is being hampered
by the complexity and disconnected nature of the tools in use
today. While the focus of every CIO is on delivering quality
applications to the business, stand-alone tools consume support
resources and perpetuate silo-based support practices. This impairs
IT's efficiency in delivering new technologies and services to the
business," said Julie Craig,
research director for Enterprise Management Associates. "I believe
the workspace and collaborative capabilities that CA Technologies
is bringing to the table with CA Mainframe Chorus is an
innovative way to address these issues, and see potential for
significant productivity benefits for CA Technologies
customers."
"We are excited about the prospects of Chorus, and are glad CA
Technologies is taking a leadership position in helping us solve
critical issues," said Adnan Can
principal specialist for the mainframe platform group for Garanti
Technology, owned by Garanti bank, Turkey's second largest
bank. "Because we use CA Technologies' tools for DB2, we see
tremendous potential to leverage those tools with CA Mainframe
Chorus in dramatically simplifying management and driving
significant productivity gains."
CA Technologies' beta version of CA Mainframe Chorus for DB2
Database Management demonstrates to customers a unique user
experience for DB2 for z/OS database administration. This first CA
Mainframe Chorus role currently leverages seven of CA Technologies'
Database Management products, including:
- CA Detector for DB2 for z/OS
- CA Insight Performance Monitor for DB2 for z/OS
- CA Plan Analyzer for DB2 for z/OS
- CA Subsystem Analyzer for DB2 for z/OS
- CA RC/Migrator for DB2 for z/OS
- CA RC/Query for DB2 for z/OS
- CA RC/Update for DB2 for z/OS
"Changing the mainframe experience by incorporating
workflow-centric computing, knowledge base work capture, and mouse
click interfaces is key to the perpetuation of mainframe computing
in the New Millennium," said Jon
Toigo, CEO and managing principal of Toigo Partners
International LLC. "CA Technologies is the clear thought
leader in this effort, having dedicated the last two years to
conducting an exhaustive analysis of requirements as part of its
Mainframe 2.0 initiative."
CA Technologies plans to deliver additional CA Mainframe Chorus
roles over time, to address the specific functions in our
customers' IT enterprises. Each role will leverage the workspace
and greatly improve the efficiency of experienced and novice staff,
allowing customers to leverage their entire IT staff to manage the
mainframe.
