NEW YORK and ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb.
6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On the globally
recognized, Safer Internet Day, the National Center for Missing
& Exploited Children® and CA Technologies are joining forces to
host a free webinar on Feb. 10 at
4 p.m. EST, focused on the new
strategies in teaching online safety.
In recent years, authorities in online safety have turned away
from traditional methods of education that focused on chat room
behavior and the risks from online predators. New programs
focus on media literacy and digital citizenship and place safety
and ethics on equal footing. This free webinar will explore these
changes and give educators and law enforcement officers an idea of
what to look for in an Internet safety program and how they can
prepare children to be good digital citizens.
"We want to arm adults with the latest information and insights
to help them teach kids how to be both smarter and safer online,"
said John Ryan, NCMEC president and
CEO. "This webinar is about understanding what messages work
best for learning and teaching in today's technology-driven world.
We're grateful to CA Technologies for helping us reach communities
nationwide with this important information."
The webinar, sponsored by CA Technologies and hosted by NCMEC's
NetSmartz® Workshop, will feature Frank
Gallagher, technology expert and Vice President of Education
at the Cable Impacts Foundation, the nonprofit foundation of the
cable telecommunications industry. He is a specialist in the areas
of media and information literacy, Internet safety, digital
citizenship, and the impact of media on children.
For more than a decade, CA Technologies has supported NCMEC and
their mission to help find missing children, reduce child sexual
exploitation and prevent child victimization. In addition to
monetary support, the company has contributed software solutions,
services and training. CA Technologies funding currently helps
support NetSmartz, a free educational program developed by NCMEC to
empower children and help them make safer choices online.
"We are proud to partner with the National Center for Missing
& Exploited Children on this important safety webinar," said
Erica Christensen, vice president,
Corporate Social Responsibility, CA Technologies. "Through this
initiative, our goal is to help educate young people about the
risks we all face online and the strategies they can use to avoid
those risks."
This is the fifth in a series of webinars, which began in 2012,
hosted by NetSmartz and sponsored by CA Technologies.
