PayPal's former longtime Chief Executive Dan Schulman is leaving the board of directors.

The digital payments company on Thursday said Schulman would no longer be part of the company on Dec. 31.

The executive headed PayPal for about eight years and joined Cisco's board in October. He is also a director at Verizon Communications' board.

Schulman, who early this year announced he would be retiring, was succeeded in September by Intuit executive Alex Chriss as its next president and CEO, ending a monthslong search for a new leader.

In November, the company named former General Electric Finance Chief Jamie Miller as its next financial chief to permanently replace Blake Jorgensen, who went on leave for health reasons and subsequently resigned in March.
