outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Tesoro Corp. (TSO) on Tuesday said it will stop producing fuel
at its refinery in Kapolei, Hawaii, and convert the facility to an
import, storage and distribution terminal since it has been unable
to sell the facility since January 2012. The conversion is expected
to occur in April.
Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) on Tuesday said the FCCU and
alkylation unit at its Los Angeles-area refinery remain shuttered
while work to repair a leak at the plant's alkylation unit
continues. The units were taken out of service on Dec. 22 when the
leak was discovered, the company said.
Motiva Enterprises on Monday said the restart of the 325,000
barrel-a-day crude unit refinery expansion at its Port Arthur,
Texas, refinery was halted when a leak was discovered the day
before. It was the third restart attempt in 30 days and followed
six months of repairs for a chemical leak. The company still
expects the unit to be fully operational early this year.
BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) on Sunday began five weeks of planned
maintenance at its Carson, Calif. The FCCU and alkylation unit are
among the units slated for work. The flaring may be visible 6 for
approximately 10 days from the start of the work, a filing to
California state regulators said.
Chevron (CVX) on Jan. 15 will begin turnaround maintenance at
its El Segundo, Calif., refinery's FCCU and alkylation unit,
traders doing business with the company said. The duration of the
turnaround wasn't known.
Tesoro Corp. on Jan. 3 said it will shut a FCCU, alkylation unit
and hydrotreater at its Wilmington, Calif., refinery for turnaround
maintenance according to traders doing business with the refinery.
The duration of the turnaround wasn't known.
Monroe Energy, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines Inc. on Dec. 30
shut a fluid catalytic cracker at it refinery in Trainer,
Pennsylvania, according to a jet fuel trader. The unit may be down
for almost two weeks.
Motiva Enterprises LLC said Dec. 29 a wet gas compressor at its
Port Arthur, Texas, refinery experienced an emergency shutdown and
charge rates were reduced to help stabilize operations for its
restart, a filing to Texas regulators said.
Chevron Corp. on Dec. 27 said it had received permits to proceed
with needed repairs to its Richmond, Calif., refinery to bring the
facility back to full production after an August fire. A spokesman
said these were the last significant outstanding permits. The
company still expects the repair process to be completed in the
first quarter of 2013.
A unit of a Borger, Texas, refinery was undergoing maintenance
from Dec. 25 to Jan. 8, according to a filing with state pollution
regulators. Work is scheduled to be done on fluid catalytic cracker
electrostatic precipitators. The Borger refinery, a joint venture
between Phillips 66 (PSX) and Cenovus Energy, has a capacity of
146,000 barrels a day.
