* Chrysler Group Reports Sales of 166,888 Vehicles, a 4 Percent Decrease for September 2006 NEW YORK, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DaimlerChrysler AG (NYSE:DCX), the third largest U.S. auto maker, today reported total group sales of 188,761 passenger vehicles in the U.S. for September 2006, a 2 percent decrease compared to September 2005. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted. Following global sales growth of 4.7 percent to 2.83 million units in 2005, Chrysler Group launches 10 all-new vehicles in 2006, the most aggressive product launch in company history, while introducing some of the most fuel- efficient vehicles to date. On the heels of the successful launch of the Dodge Caliber, Chrysler Group continues its product offensive with the launch of the Jeep Compass. The Jeep Compass expands the product portfolio of the Jeep brand with an all-new, modern-styled compact Jeep that delivers fun, freedom, utility, excellent fuel efficiency and Jeep 4x4 capability at a terrific value. The Jeep Compass is available at Jeep dealers nationwide and has received positive feedback amid brisk sales. Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported its highest September sales on record with 19,873 new vehicles sold, an increase of 13 percent over last September. The Mercedes-Benz portfolio of luxury light trucks -- the M-, R-, G- and GL- Classes -- continued to demonstrate impressive gains with a combined 84.5 percent increase over last September as a group.
