Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), in cooperation with VERITAS Software Corporation (NASDAQ:VRTS), has successfully demonstrated that the Northrop Grumman Decision Agent(TM) and VERITAS Cluster Server and Volume Replicator provide a reliable cross-country, continuity-of-operations solution for protecting critical data in the U.S. Coast Guard's use of the Defense Message System. The Decision Agent systems will process all Defense Message System communications between the Coast Guard, other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and government agencies. During normal operations, Decision Agent systems located on the East and West coasts of the United States actively support message traffic, and each site has the capacity to support the full traffic load if one site is unavailable. A team of Coast Guard, Northrop Grumman and VERITAS personnel demonstrated that, in the event of a single-site outage, the system would transfer all operations to the other working site while retaining all critical message traffic. "This collaborative effort between Northrop Grumman and VERITAS was a great success for the Coast Guard," said Cmdr. Joseph Sargent, Defense Message System project manager. "The continuity-of-operations solution they've developed will help keep the Coast Guard on the leading edge of Defense Message System implementations, assuring the high reliability needed for this mission-critical system." The Defense Message System provides multimedia messaging and directory services to U.S. government agencies and allied forces using the Defense Information Infrastructure network and security services. The Decision Agent systems provide domain Fortezza(R) -- enabling Fortezza's encryption and decryption functionality while eliminating the need for a user device -- and other enhanced features that reduce the costs and administrative overhead associated with standard Defense Message System implementations. The Coast Guard plans to deploy the Defense Message System using Northrop Grumman's Decision Agent and VERITAS Cluster Server and Volume Replicator products.
