Defense company Northrop Grumman Corp. on Wednesday announced a segment realignment and said it was restoring the chief operating officer position, last held by Wesley G. Bush when he was promoted to chief executive.

At the time, the company said Mr. Bush would no longer serve as COO but would continue to carry out the duties of the job.

On Wednesday, Northrop said Corporate Vice President Gloria A. Flach, who leads the company's Electronic Systems segment, would take over the new post on Jan. 1.

In addition, Northrop will now have three segments:

—Mission Systems, based in Maryland, will include the current electronic systems sector, the electronic attack business now part of aerospace systems and the information systems business focused on military and intelligence customers. Kathy Warden, now in charge of information systems, will be in charge.

—Technology Services will combine the current technology services sector and the services portfolio from the information systems sector. Chris Jones, now in charge of technical services, will be in charge; and

—Aerospace Systems will include the military and civil hardware business in Azusa, Calif., currently part of the electronic systems sector along with the remaining businesses in the sector; Tom Vice will continue to be in charge.
