Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) said it captured more sales in the latest quarter as the aerospace and defense company fueled its revenue with new business, sales growth and improved operating performance.

The Falls Church, Va.-based company reported Wednesday a profit for the second quarter of $861 million, or $5.06 a share, up from $789 million, or $4.50 a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for $4.68 a share.

Sales for the quarter rose 19% to $8.5 billion, above the consensus forecast of $8.41 billion.
