Pinterest Names Kendall President

Dow Jones News
Pinterest Inc. has promoted Tim Kendall to president, a newly
created position that comes as the image-discovery site seeks to
start making money from its growing user base overseas.
Mr. Kendall's promotion means that his responsibilities of
overseeing advertising and other partner businesses, such as
commerce and API operations, will now extend to overseas markets as
well. Mr. Kendall was promoted to general manager of monetization a
year ago, which expanded his portfolio of responsibilities to be in
charge of both product and revenue.
Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann said the title change better
reflects all the responsibilities handled by Mr. Kendall, who will
be ensured with keeping the company's momentum going.
Pinterest, valued at $11 billion by its investors, has sought to
expand its international presence so the majority of its users will
eventually come from overseas—a makeup that is similar to its more
established peers, such as Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. when they
went public.
Mr. Silbermann declined to comment on plans for an initial
public offering this year.
Before going public, Pinterest will likely need to start
generating revenue from its international users, which will soon
make up more than half of its more than 100 million monthly users.
Pinterest made about $100 million from advertisements served to its
U.S. users in 2015, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Mr. Kendall, a four-year Pinterest veteran, had been in charge of
the team that built Pinterest's ad system.
Before Pinterest, Mr. Kendall was a director of advertising
products at Facebook for four years.
Mr. Silbermann said that the company aims to be selling
advertising in all English-speaking markets by the end of the year,
including the U.K., Canada and Australia.
