ExxonMobil Foundation and LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) are expanding and enhancing the Hispanic educational outreach program to include math and science activities and demonstrations at this year's 2005 State Fair of Texas. The ExxonMobil/LULAC Education Center at Mundo Latino will once again feature the Go Center, a college recruiting program designed to introduce and encourage Hispanic middle and high school students to pursue a college education. In addition, this program will also feature math and science demonstrations available for fair participants. "Pursuing higher education is an attainable goal for each and every student, no matter their race or financial circumstance," said Truman T. Bell, Education and Diversity Program Officer, ExxonMobil Diversity Global Community Relations. "Programs such as the education center and supporters such as ExxonMobil and LULAC are exactly what students need to gain momentum on their path to a successful career." As part of this education initiative, students will learn about higher education options through the Go Center. This computer lab helps student choose the right career path based on their interests and talents. In the Go Center, students can create an online portfolio, provided by Online College Network (OCN). These portfolios help colleges locate and communicate with students and their parents. The center also provides information about financial aid and other means of assistance for parents. OCN staff facilitates this process and assists students during the fair. In addition to the Go Center, ExxonMobil and LULAC incorporated two new components dedicated to math and science. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and fair attendees take part in real-life science, mathematics and physics projects such as pop rockets, sled kites and race cars. Secondly, students from W.E. Greiner and L.V. Stockard Middle Schools will showcase a working Ferris wheel built as part of the LNESC Math/Science Corp program. This model is on display at the ExxonMobil/LULAC Education Center at Mundo Latino. "Our focus for the ExxonMobil/LULAC Education Center at Mundo Latino is to encourage Hispanic students to continue their education and explore opportunities beyond middle school and high school," said Hector M. Flores, National President, LULAC. "We commend ExxonMobil for their continued dedication to students and its support of vital programs such as this education center for Hispanics, the fastest growing population in the United States." The Mundo Latino exhibit and the ExxonMobil/LULAC Education Center at Mundo Latino are located in the Women's Museum at Fair Park. Both are open to the public during the State Fair of Texas.
