Shares of oil-and-gas companies rose after a promising sign in
supplies data. The U.S. Energy Department said its estimate of
domestic crude production ticked below 9 million barrels a day last
week for the first time since September 2014, hinting that the oil
glut is finally dissipating, at least in the U.S. Exxon Mobil made
a court filing in opposition to the government's investigation over
whether the oil giant covered up its knowledge of the effects of
fossil fuels on the climate. (rob.curran@dowjones.com)
