Workers of Exxon Mobil Corp.-owned Esso in France will be requisitioned in order to end a blockage at its storage depots and refineries and restore supply at the country's gas stations, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said Tuesday.

"I have requested...the launch of the process of requisitioning workers essential to the operation of the depots of this company," she told the National Assembly.

The move follows the decision by some unions to continue the blockages despite an agreement being reached with a majority of representatives on Monday, she said. "We cannot accept this," Ms. Borne said.

Workers at Esso and French oil major TotalEnergies SE have been striking since late last month, demanding wage increases. The situation has led to shortages at French gas stations.

According to Ms. Borne, 30% of the country's gas stations had run out of at least one product as of Monday.

She reiterated a call for dialogue between worker representatives and employers.
