Alternatives to Hysterectomies: Women Are Urged to Know Their
Options When It Comes to Treating Certain Conditions NEW YORK, May
10 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study published in the New England
Journal of Medicine indicates one in four women will have a
hysterectomy before the age of 60. When applied in non-life
threatening situations such as excessive or abnormal menstrual
bleeding, this radical surgical treatment can place an unnecessary
physical and mental toll on women. In the case of excessive
menstrual bleeding, a condition that afflicts nearly 30 percent of
all women in the U.S., various FDA approved technologies can be
used in the doctor's office with local anesthesia. The HTA system,
an out-patient procedure that uses heated saline for heavy
bleeding, showed that more than half of the women experienced no
bleeding and more than 90% were satisfied with this treatment as an
