COQUITLAM, B.C.,
Aug. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - CN
announced today that the CN Canadian Women's Open, held at the
Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam,
B.C., raised $1.8 million for
BC Children's Hospital Foundation through the CN Miracle Match
program. The program was created in 2006 to raise funds for
children's hospitals by matching funds raised through various
initiatives connected with the Open.
"This is a tremendous feat," said Claude Mongeau, CN president
and chief executive officer. "The people of the Vancouver area and from all over British Columbia have shown their support for
the CN Miracle Match since the launch of the campaign in May of
this year all the way through the end of the Open, and we thank
them for their generosity. We at CN are very proud to generate
lasting benefits to such a vital institution as the BC Children's
Hospital.
"We look forward to continuing this tradition of support for
pediatric care next year when the CN Canadian Women's Open will be
held at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton."
"Children from across British
Columbia and the Yukon will
benefit directly from the generosity of the many people who have
responded with enthusiasm to the CN Miracle Match program," said
Teri Nicholas, BC Children's Hospital Foundation's president and
chief executive officer. "This gift will ensure that children are
treated with the latest in medical technology and that research
undertaken at BC Children's Hospital delivers benefits to children
in B.C., across Canada and around
the world."
With this year's results, CN has now raised more than
$8.2 million for children's health
since the CN Miracle Match was launched at the inaugural CN
Canadian Women's Open in London,
Ont., in 2006.
