(NYSE: CNI) announced today that the tenth edition of the CN
Canadiens Alumni Challenge raised C$398,555. The proceeds will benefit charitable
organizations supported by the CN Employees' and Pensioners'
Community Fund (CN Community Fund), notably the Simple Plan
Foundation, Ted Nolan Foundation, L'appart à moi and The
Cancer Support Center in Homewood,
Ill.
Since its first edition, in 2002, the CN Canadiens Alumni
Challenge has raised C$2,575,535
million for charity.
Olivier Chouc, CN vice-president, Law, and chairman of the board
of the CN Community Fund, said: "We are very proud to make a
significant contribution that will help make a difference for the
organizations selected this year. I want to thank and congratulate
our employees and retirees, as well as our business partners, who
have given back to the communities in which CN operates by raising
funds benefiting charitable organizations for many years through
the CN Community Fund."
On Saturday, at Montreal's
Saint-Michel Arena, CN's hockey club played against a team of
former Montreal Canadiens coached by Guy
Lafleur, including Guy
Carbonneau, Patrice
Brisebois, Stéphane Richer, and Chris Nilan. To mark this milestone, Simple Plan
has given an acoustic performance before the game. The
internationally revered band is well known for its community
involvement. These big-hearted rock stars have launched their own
foundation to help troubled youth.
