TSX-V: ROK
VANCOUVER, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Roca Mines Inc.
(TSX-V: ROK) ("Roca" or "the Company") announces that production at
its MAX Molybdenum Mine has been temporarily suspended due to a
collapse of the 830-850mL sill pillar. No workers or mobile
equipment were in the area at the time of the collapse.
The stability of the sill pillar had been the focus of ongoing
observation. Geotechnical monitoring conducted by mine personnel
successfully observed increased activity in this area on
September 20th and all mine personnel
and mobile equipment were moved as a precaution. The sill pillar
apparently failed progressively, initially occurring as raveling in
the evening of September 20th and
ultimately failing at approximately midnight. No other instability
has been observed since that time.
Ventilation, pumping and other mine systems continue to
function, allowing for a complete and immediate inspection of the
workings. Initial reports by mine personnel suggest that the extent
of the impact is limited to some timbered ventilation bulkheads and
manways that are readily repairable.
Management and the Company's underground geotechnical
specialists are currently reviewing the event and a further update
will be released as quickly as possible.
