VANCOUVER, BC , a leading e-learning provider, today announced
that it has contributed more than $1 million toward bridging the
education gap in developing nations.
"By providing free online courses and exams for nearly 100,000
people who might otherwise not have the opportunity to undertake
training, Serebra is providing people with the means to improve
their skills and thereby their standard of living, regardless of
geographic, economic and social barriers," said Ted Moorhouse,
Serebra's chairman and CEO.
Inspired by the company's membership in the Clinton Global
Initiative (CGI), a non-partisan project of the William J. Clinton
Foundation, Serebra made a commitment to provide free courses and
exams through its easyLearning program, which offers accessible and
affordable courses in subject areas such as desktop skills, IT and
professional development. Course and exam recipients receive a PIN
card that allows them to log in to a Web site and choose an exam
topic. Each course or exam, when passed, also helps the recipient
earn income through Serebra's online outsourcing platform, Serebra
Connect (www.serebraconnect.com).
"Through our global skills program, easyLearning, we encourage
people to utilize education to improve their standard of living and
build a better life. e-learning is a convenient, affordable and
accessible way to deliver training to developing nations where it
is needed most," Moorhouse said. "However, training alone is not
enough. Access to Serebra Connect provides work opportunities that
might otherwise be hard to come by."
Moorhouse participates in the CGI as a representative of the
education sector to generate innovative ideas and find new ways to
help address the education gaps between developing and developed
nations.
