MTU Aero Engines AG said late Thursday that it would collaborate with Safran SA's Safran Aircraft Engines and Spain's ITP Aero on the development of an engine to power the Next-Generation Fighter aircraft.

The company said its collaboration with Safran Aircraft Engines will take place as part of a joint venture it established with the company, which is named EUMET.

The JV will act as prime contractor in the program, while Spanish engine manufacturer ITP Aero will be the main partner.

The development of the Next-Generation Fighter aircraft engine is part of Europe's FCAS, or Future Combat Air System, MTU Aero Engines said.
