STUTTGART--Porsche AG, the German sports car maker, is nearing a
decision over its plan to add a seventh model to its stall and
isn't ruling out a pure battery-driven vehicle.
"We will present a seventh model series in the not too distant
future," Porsche Chief Executive Matthias Müller told reporters
Friday.
Mr. Müller said the company is studying "promising designs" but
no decision had been made.
One option that he didn't rule out is that Porsche could build
its first pure battery driven sports car for general road use. In a
slip of the tongue, he ventured that the "electric vehicle" would
be built in a Volkswagen group factory.
Mr. Müller was sceptical about battery-driven cars, saying the
technology hasn't taken off in the market, but said the question
for Porsche is when will be the right time to enter the market.
Asked whether the new vehicle could be an battery-driven model,
he said: "If at the end of the decade the time is ripe for a
battery-driven vehicle, then why not?"
