FRANFURT--New car registrations in Germany jumped 12% in
February compared with the same period a year earlier, with sales
growth in Mercedes cars hitting almost 25%, federal motor vehicle
agency KBA said Wednesday.
Volkswagen retained the largest market share, at 21%, but sales
of its cars grew at a slower rate than other major German
manufacturers.
The rise in February registrations, a mirror of sales, to
250,302 was much stronger than the 3.3% annual increase seen in
January and the around 8% gain seen in December.
Sports car sales also shot up, rising over 42% and sports
utility vehicle sales increased around 33%. Sales of hybrid cars
surged 26%.
