RadioShack on Tuesday named retail veteran Dene Rogers as its president and chief executive, effective May 9.

Mr. Rogers was previously chief executive officer of Target Australia and of Sears Canada.

RadioShack Chairman Robert Lavan pointed to Mr. Rogers's "long and consistent record of business success" and said he has "an impressive vision for how to expand the business into other segments of the market across a variety of platforms."

"Together, we will reinvent RadioShack's business model to create a dynamic growth company," Mr. Rogers said.

Once the go-to destination for gadget fans and do-it-yourself electronics buffs, RadioShack sank into bankruptcy court last year after a long, failed effort to get more shoppers into its stores.

The RadioShack brand was acquired by Standard General LP last spring, and since then its leadership has aimed to reinvigorate the electronics retailer through new partnerships, programs and product offerings.
