-- Donated Golf and Sports Equipment to Benefit Military Installations in the United States -- ATLANTA, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth's second annual Classic Cause, a golf and sports equipment collection initiative, will launch March 27 in conjunction with the BellSouth Classic. The Classic Cause provides an opportunity for the general public and BellSouth employees in the Southeast to donate new and gently used sports equipment for distribution to local military installations in the nine-state region. During the week of the 2006 BellSouth Classic, golf fans will once again have the opportunity to demonstrate their support for our local military men and women. This year, new and gently used golf and other sports equipment can be donated at nearly 100 locations including: Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi Telco credit unions and all Edwin Watts retail stores as well Atlanta-area GolfTEC/Golfsmith stores and PGA TOUR Superstores. A complete list of collection points is available at: http://www.bellsouthclassic.com/bellsouth_classiccause_collections_2006.pdf. These locations will receive donations during the 2006 BellSouth Classic PGA TOUR event, scheduled for March 27-April 2. BellSouth employees may make donations at select internal locations (see website for details on internal collection points). UPS is assisting with shipping and logistical support of the donated equipment as a key partner in the Classic Cause effort. BellSouth's Classic Cause launched in 2005 and received widespread support, as more than 3,000 golf clubs, tens of thousands of golf balls and other golf-related equipment were collected and donated. The items were presented to the USO by Dick Anderson of BellSouth Corporation following last year's BellSouth Classic. The equipment was then delivered to Fort Gillem for distribution to military personnel overseas. "We are honored to host the Classic Cause once again in 2006. This is a tangible way for golf fans to share what they love while demonstrating their appreciation of military personnel who protect and defend our nation," said Dave Kaplan, executive director of the BellSouth Classic. "We are thankful for the generosity of all who participate in and donate to the Classic Cause as well as the cooperation of our partners who have joined us in this effort." In addition to the Classic Cause, all active and retired military personnel as well as their families, will receive free general admission to the 2006 BellSouth Classic with a valid military ID. Defending BellSouth Classic champion Phil Mickelson will look to retain his title at the 2006 BellSouth Classic, which will be played at the TPC at Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga.
