WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chrysler Financial announced today a three-year partnership with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) to advance personal finance education for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The automotive finance company presented a donation of $495,000 in support of the CBCF's SHOP for Wealth program, a seminar designed to teach students how to effectively manage their personal finances and build wealth. "We are pleased to partner with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and top decision-makers in the African-American community nationwide to deliver financial education and empowerment programs," said William F. Jones Jr., Vice President - Chrysler Financial. "This innovative private- and public-sector partnership will drive positive social change by helping young people to make good financial choices benefiting them for a lifetime." Chrysler Financial will provide financial resources and know-how to build on the SHOP for Wealth curriculum. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation established the workshop, formerly known as the Student Homeownership Opportunity Program, in February of 2003. The seminar focuses on establishing good credit health, debt management and wealth building. Starting next year, both organizations will start rolling out a new SHOP for Wealth program at approximately 14 Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the United States. "We are excited to partner with a good corporate citizen and one of the leading automotive finance companies in the nation," said Congressman Kendrick B. Meek of Florida and Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Congressman Meek accepted the donation as part of the CBCF's 36th Annual Legislative Conference at the Washington Convention Center. "We will reach thousands of African-American students and assist them in learning how to manage their money and build prosperous lives." Chrysler Financial has been committed to financial empowerment for years. The company partnered with Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) and launched "Get Your Money Right" tours in major U.S. metropolitan areas. HSAN plans to support Chrysler Financial's and the CBCF's joint community venture moving forward. In addition, Chrysler Financial engaged in a number of other financial health initiatives and partnerships, including the Financial Lifeskills program taught by Chrysler Financial employees in select Michigan high schools, Money$mart Week, the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and the American Financial Services Association.
