Taiwanese liquid-crystal-display and electronic paper maker Prime View International Co. (8069.OT) said Monday it will buy U.S.-based digital ink maker E Ink Corp. for about US$215 million in cash.

Prime View said in statement the deal would allow the company to obtain access to E Ink's key technology and patents.

The deal is expected to close in October, Prime View Chief Financial Officer Stephen Chen told Dow Jones Newswires by telephone.

"We can lower costs and dominate the market by acquiring E Ink," Chen said.

Prime View makes electronic books like Sony Corp.'s (SNE) Sony Reader and Amazon.com Inc.'s (AMZN) Kindle electronic reader.
