BellSouth's Georgia Network - Frances Update ATLANTA, Sept. 8
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BellSouth's Georgia network has held up
well and the company is responding quickly to assist customers who
have been affected by Tropical Depression Frances. BellSouth
estimates that approximately 34,100 customer lines are out-of-
service due to Tropical Depression Frances, representing less than
1% of BellSouth's approximately 3.7 million access lines in the

since late last week managing all aspects of storm preparation
activities, monitoring damages during the storm, and coordinating
all response and restoration efforts. BellSouth forces in Georgia
continued to respond on the ground, even during the height of the
storm, in dealing with and resolving numerous damage issues. The
actual time it will take to restore service depends upon the
availability of electrical power, BellSouth's access to the
affected area and, ultimately, the extent of physical damage
