A New Record, Now???

Dear Trader,

If you want to know what keeps driving this market higher, it's really pretty simple. This market is continuing higher because people are afraid of missing out!

Fund managers, big traders, and even small investors all feel the same way. They watched the market move higher all of 2006 and most of 2007. And most people are sick and tired of missing out on the seeminly continuous move up for the stock market.

That's the reason I believe the stock market keeps moving higher with the problems we have out there (housing, subprime, etc.) All the investors and fund managers that missed out on the previous rallies (or didn't get in as much as they thought they should) have decided they are not going to miss out this time around. And thus we continue to get new long positions each and every day. And obviously that has a distinct effect: It shakes the short positions out too!

US STOCKS-Futures rise as credit worries ease
Tue Oct 2, 2007 7:08am EDT

By Caroline Valetkevitch

NEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - U.S. stock futures edged higher on Tuesday, with the market poised to extend Monday's record-setting gains on views that the worst global credit problems may be over.

A report that could shed light on the troubled housing market was due at 10 a.m. (1400 GMT). The National Association of Realtors was scheduled to report its pending home sales index for August. Economists polled by Reuters expect a 2.1 percent fall compared with a 12.2 percent slide in July.

bon trade a tous

MARKET SNAPSHOT: U.S. Stocks Decline After Tentative Start And Home Sales Data

By Kate Gibson

U.S. stocks tilted lower Tuesday, retracing a portion of the prior day's record-setting gains as fresh economic data cast the troubled housing market in a dismal, but anticipated, light.

The lack of steep selling on Wall Street suggests investors are increasingly hopeful the credit crunch is all but over, said Al Kugel, chief investment strategist with Atlantic Trust.Listen to more.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) fell 48.4 points to 14,039.1., with 14 of the blue-chip barometer's 30 components trading lower. Exxon Mobil Corp. ( XOM) fronted the Dow's losses, its stock off 2.4%.

Home Depot Inc. (HD) and General Motors Corp. (GM) led among Dow advancers, with Home Depot up 0.7% and GM ahead 1%.

The S&P 500 (SPX) declined 3.93 points to 1,543.11, and the Nasdaq Composite ( RIXF) shed 2.48 points to 2,738.51.

"U.S. equities remain supportedafter yesterday's record run inspired copycat gains overseas, supported by M&A activity and lingering hopes that the financial system is putting past indiscretions behind it," said analysts at Action Economics.

Wall Street rallied Monday, pushing the Dow to a record close as the disclosure of sizable write-downs by Citigroup Inc. (C) bolstered thinking that investors now have a better handle on the extent of the damage stemming from riskier subprime home loans.

On Tuesday, Citigroup disclosed its plan to buy the 32% of Japanese brokerage Nikko Cordial Corp. that it does not already own for about $4.6 billion in stock.

Corporate news
