BARCELONA (EFE Dow Jones)--Barcelona's main public transport operator, TMB, said Monday that it has commissioned 42 trains from France's Alstom SA (ALO.FR).

The contract, worth 268 million euros ($298.1 million), is the largest in the history of Barcelona's metro. The new trains will replace the oldest vehicles on metro lines 1 and 3.

Alstom will deliver the trains within two and a half years after the formalization of the contract, which is expected to take place at the end of September, TMB said.
