STOCKHOLM--Autoliv said Friday that its China unit and vehicle manufacturer Great Wall Motor intend to collaborate on advanced automotive safety technologies.

The Swedish maker of airbags and safety belts said the collaboration is expected to result in driver experience advancements such as an overhead passenger airbag and a seat that features airbags and an integrated seatbelt for autonomous vehicles.

The collaboration also includes the development of several new products with sustainable materials, such as using bio-polyethylene terephthalate plastic as the basic fabric for airbag cushions, and bio-leather wrapping on steering wheels, it added.

"We will have in-depth cooperation in innovative technology, platformization and commonization that will provide more diversified solutions for future mobility," said Jack Wei, founder and chairman of GWM.

Autoliv and GWM have worked together since 2003, when Autoliv developed and began supplying seat belts for GWM's Haval brand of SUVs.
