Cingular Sets Its Sites on 'Driving Out To The Hamptons' This Summer ROSELAND, N.J., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The unofficial start of summer is upon us. Memorial Day is traditionally the first summer get-away weekend for beach-goers. Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, today highlighted its commitment to provide outstanding network performance and a world-class wireless experience for customers using their service when driving out to Long Island's beaches. Since last year, several new cell sites have improved coverage at Lido Beach, Cedar Beach, Hampton Bays/Ponquogue Beach, East Amagansett and North Sea. These sites added to Cingular's existing solid coverage at Jones Beach, Long Beach, Ocean Beach, Robert Moses Beach and Smith Point Beach. Cingular is also improving coverage along major roadways on Long Island with a new cell site recently turned on-air in Hauppauge that provides additional wireless coverage along Veteran's Highway (Rt. 454), Route 347 as well as along Old Willetts Path between Jericho Turnpike and the Long Island Expressway. So far this year, Cingular has added more than 15 new cell sites in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. "We are aggressively putting up new sites to give our customers in Long Island more bars in more places, so that they have the very best wireless network experience when they're at home, at work or driving out to the Hamptons this summer," said Tom DeVito, Cingular Wireless Vice President and General Manager for New York/New Jersey. Plus for those rainy days at the beach, Cingular has improved its wireless coverage inside many of Long Island's most popular shopping malls, including Roosevelt Field and Smith Haven. The company is constantly monitoring its network and that of its competition, driving approximately 95,000 miles per month throughout Cingular's New York/New Jersey market. That's equivalent to nearly four complete trips around the earth! Cingular continues to enhance its network daily on Long Island and throughout the metropolitan New York area. This year, Cingular Wireless plans to spend more than $6 billion nationally to add thousands of new cell sites and to fine-tune network performance. About Cingular Wireless In metropolitan New York and northern New Jersey, Cingular covers more than 16 million people extending across more than 5,000-square-miles including New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties. In New Jersey, the market extends across into Warren County and as far south as Somerset and Hunterdon counties. Cingular Wireless is the largest wireless carrier in the United States, serving 50.4 million customers. Cingular, a joint venture between SBC Communications Inc.
