Shockley receives 44% of fan votes to win year's first Player of the Week award ATLANTA, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- College football fans have spoken and University of Georgia senior quarterback D.J. Shockley has been selected as the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week. On Saturday, Shockley staked his claim to the only major college football award determined exclusively by fan voting with 374 total yards and six touchdowns while leading the Bulldogs to a season-opening win against Boise State. The other finalists were: Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun (25%), who rushed for 258 yards and five touchdowns in the Badgers' 56-42 win against Bowling Green: Clemson kicker Jad Dean (16%), who kicked six field goals, including the game winner, in the Tigers' 25-24 win over Texas A&M; and Bowling Green quarterback Omar Jacobs (15%), who passed for 458 yards and five touchdowns in the Falcons' loss to Wisconsin. Each week's winner is determined solely by college football fans nationwide. Throughout the season, the nominees are announced Sunday morning at 9 a.m. EST on ESPN.
