Coverage Improved in Volusia, Brevard and Columbia Counties ORLANDO, Fla., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless continues to build out its Florida network. The company today announced it has turned on three new cell sites in Central and North Florida. The new sites are part of a $370 million network investment statewide by the nation's largest wireless carrier. The new cell sites are improving coverage in the following areas: * Volusia County - Along State Highway 44 between I-4 and State Highway 415 west of the town of Samsula. * Brevard County - Along A-1-A and to the residential areas in southern Indialantic and northern Melbourne Beach. * Columbia County - To western Lake City and along Brown Road and County Road 135, U.S. 90 between Lake City and Live Oak, and I-75. Cingular plans to add some 40 new cell sites in West, Central and North Florida this year. "It's all about coverage and fewer dropped calls," said Dan Norman, vice- president and general manager for Cingular's West, Central and North Florida markets. "Not only are we adding new cell sites this year, but also we're wrapping up the integration of the former AT&T Wireless and Cingular networks in West, Central and North Florida, which is going to result in fewer dropped calls, better call quality, and improved indoor, in-car and pedestrian coverage for our customers." In addition to the network integration and new cell sites, Cingular will roll out its third-generation (3G) high-speed broadband wireless network this summer. The service provides average mobile data connections between 400 and 700 kilobits per second on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.
