New Cell Sites in Albany Enhance Network Coverage for Cingular Subscribers ALBANY, N.Y., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The nation's largest wireless carrier continues to grow its network in Albany and the upstate New York region. Cingular Wireless today announced it has added nine new cell sites in the area, providing enhanced service for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Washington Counties. Cingular has activated a new downtown Albany cell site serving Central Avenue, US 20 and Western Avenue. This site also enhances coverage at the New York State Parole office, the College of St. Rose, SUNY Albany and Washington Park. In addition, a new site now serves the busy Route 7 corridor between Pittstown and Hoosick in Rensselaer County. Also in Rensselaer County, a site in Troy has been activated to serve Routes 7, 787, 40 & 4, Brunswick and Cohoes Roads. This site provides service to Smarts Pond, Albia Lake, Samaritan Hospital, RPI, and Emma Willard College as well. Cingular customers south of Wynantskill will benefit from a new site serving North Greenbush, West Sand Lake, Routes 43, 150, 136 (Whiteview Rd) and Snyder Lake. The company has also activated a new site in the Latham Circle area to serve the Northway, Routes 7 and 9, as well as Latham Farms and Latham Circle malls. A new Cohoes site now benefits Cingular customers in the downtown area as well as at Peebles Island State Park and in the town of Waterford. And, a new Ormsbee Road site in Saratoga County has been added to improve coverage at Porter Corners and Route 9 N between Greenfield and Corinth. In Washington County, a new site now serves the villages of Schuylerville & Greenwich and Route 29 in addition to covering the Battle Kill Country Club, Ft. Hardy Park, Saratoga Battle Monument and the Washington County Fairgrounds. In Schenectady County, a new site now brings additional service to downtown Schenectady in addition to I-890, Routes 5 & 50 S, Schenectady County Community College, Union College, Steimetz Lake, Iroquois Lake and Collins Lake. As a result of its merger with AT&T Wireless, Cingular customers now enjoy the benefit of 780 fully-integrated cell sites throughout upstate New York. Last year Cingular invested more than $122 million to build and integrate over 275 cell sites in the upstate region. The company plans to spend an additional $60 million in 2006 to further enhance its network. Nationally, Cingular will invest more than $6 billion expanding and enhancing its network this year.
