HERNDON, Va., May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The U.S. Department
of State has selected Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) as one of three
lead contractors for the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI).
The company will provide training to militaries and peacekeeping
forces worldwide as one of three companies awarded indefinite
delivery/indefinite quantity contracts. The GPOI contracts have a
potential value of $200 million, collectively, over five years. The
Department of State created the GPOI to build worldwide capacity to
provide well-trained troops for international peacekeeping. The
GPOI incorporates lessons learned and peacekeeping successes of the
African Contingency Operations Training Assistance (ACOTA) program,
under which Northrop Grumman has provided peacekeeping training to
13 African nations since the 1990s. "This win enhances our
international training presence," said Mike Roberts, vice president
and general manager for Training and Simulation for Northrop
Grumman's Technical Services sector. "We demonstrated under ACOTA
how professionally executed training can have an enduring impact on
the peace and prosperity of developing nations. Through GPOI, we're
ensuring that this critical work is taken beyond the continent of
Africa." Training services provided under the contract range from
multinational command post exercises and the development of
training products to in-country, train-the-trainer peacekeeping
instruction. Work locations will be determined by task order
requirements. "This work enhances our national security by helping
to strengthen the foundations of peace across the globe," said
Michael Devlin, Northrop Grumman Technical Services International
program manager. Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion
global defense and technology company whose 122,000 employees
provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information
and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government
and commercial customers worldwide. DATASOURCE: Northrop Grumman
