DAYTON, Ohio, Sept. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ask Northrop
Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) why it remains the longest running
presenting sponsor of the U.S. Air Force Marathon, and it will give
you 15,000 reasons ... and then some.
That's the number of runners who will take part in the
18th annual Air Force Marathon events – 5K, 10K, half
marathon and full marathon – planned for Sept. 19-20 on the grounds of Wright State University and Wright-Patterson Air
Force Base in Dayton.
"As a presenting sponsor, Northrop Grumman celebrates the
innovation that made Dayton the
birthplace of aviation, the brave men and women who protect our
freedom, and the strong community that stands united behind them
all," said Tom Vice, corporate vice
president and president, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. "We
salute and honor the Air Force for its mission, its ideals and its
pursuit of excellence."
Northrop Grumman is the Air Force's prime contractor for the B-2
stealth bomber; the RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft
intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance system; and the E-8C
Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) battle
management and command and control aircraft.
Kevin Bell, corporate lead
executive for Northrop Grumman in Dayton, said the company has been a sponsor of
the Air Force Marathon events since 2007, the only year it was not
a presenting sponsor. Since then, the company's participation in
the events has grown steadily.
"In 2014, we're expecting approximately 70 Northrop Grumman
employees and their family members to participate in the Air Force
Marathon events," said Bell. "Many more of them will be manning aid
stations or cheering the runners along the
course."
The 2014 events will also feature appearances by the B-2 stealth
bike, a custom-built motorcycle developed and produced by Orange
County Choppers in 2009 to help Northrop Grumman celebrate the
20th anniversary of the first flight of the B-2 stealth
bomber.
The B-2 bike will be on display at the Nutter Center
Sept. 18-19 as part of the Air Force
Marathon Runners' Expo. Dave Mazur,
vice president and the company's B-2 program manager, will also
treat runners to the throaty roar of the B-2 bike when he rides it
as the lead pace vehicle for the half-marathon event.
