Spain's Gas Natural Fenosa (GAS.MC) has entered the race for large liquefied natural gas contracts to supply Argentina despite strong opposition from Repsol SA (REP.MC), one of Gas Natural's main shareholders with a 30% stake, reports Expansion in its Wednesday Internet edition.

Earlier this year, Argentina expropriated a 51% stake in YPF from Repsol.

Through its state-run companies Enarsa and YPF SA (YPF), Argentina is expected to buy more than 80 LNG cargoes next year, with a market value of some $3.3 billion or more than 2.5 billion euros, according to the newspaper.
