Exxon Mobil Corp. said Friday its Beaumont, Texas, refinery and
other nearby assets sustained little damage from Hurricane Laura
and as such it has begun to restart operations.
"Our initial assessment of our Beaumont area facilities revealed
the need for only minor repairs, and we have begun restart
activities," Exxon said in a statement. "Timing on when operations
can resume to normal will largely depend on the availability of
power, product transportation infrastructure and the reopening of
the Sabine Neches Waterway."
Exxon added its primary focus is the safety of its employees,
contractors and the community. "We are reaching out to our
employees and their families to confirm they are safe and to
understand the impact the storm had on them."
The Beaumont refinery is 90 miles east of Houston.
