FRANKFURT--German new registrations slowed in August largely due to a seasonal turn with one less working day compared with last year, said auto association body VDA.

August new car registrations came in 5% lower on the year at 214,100 vehicles.

"Seasonally adjusted the registration volume is at the previous year's level," VDA said.

"The stabilization of the domestic passenger car market that could be noticed in July has apparently continued also in August. It's encouraging that domestic orders have risen 2%," VDA President Matthias Wissmann said.

Exports increased 3% on the year to 293,900 vehicles in August.

The number of new cars registered between January and August in Germany declined 7% on the year to 1.97 million.
