Russian oil companies will only halt exports of high octane gasoline in May, a spokesman for the country's biggest oil producer OAO Rosneft (ROSN.RS) clarified Thursday.

"The halt is only on high octane gasoline, which is in deficit in Russia," the spokesman said.

Earlier Thursday, Russian media had quoted acting Energy Minister Sergei Kudryashov as saying Russian oil companies would halt exports of oil products in May in order to supply a looming domestic fuel deficit.

An energy ministry spokesman confirmed that exports of oil products as a whole won't be halted, but that there will be limitations on gasoline exports.
